A very appealing contemporary home that once belonged to actor Brendan Fraser hit the open market late last winter with an asking price of $4.25 million. It took seven months to sell, but sell it did, with the most recent past-tense owners accepting an offer of $4.13 million for the 3,948 square-foot glass-and-whitewash build. Fraser had the home custom designed, and called the property home for about a decade; he sold it in 2007 for a little less than $3 million.

And, what a house it is. The streetside exterior presents a bright first impression: blue glass gates against a white background, with a dolloping of tropical landscaping to effectively set off the look. It’s set into an incline in Beverly Hills; from the hillside, it extends to three floors, with a two-level solarium on one side its most defining feature.

The home is classified as a contemporary style, and bears a few modern architectural elements. Mid-century optimism suffuses the spaces, and the balance of warm, textured naturalistic cues and tough, whitewashed angularity is beautifully sustained. The galley kitchen is marvelous—a little quaint now, but it’s aged well into nostalgia—and the master suite, with its minimalist fireplace and built-ins, and intoxicating sense of continuation into the views of downtown L.A., is exuberant, cultured, and unpretentious.

A staircase with wood treads and an industrial-influenced balustrade which extends to the first-floor deck, and a semi-integrated pool with water features, are among the highlights of the property’s exterior layout.

Fraser’s acting career has included turns as easygoing gardener Clayton in 1998’s ‘Gods and Monsters,’ and messianic CIA field man Pyle in the masterful 2002 adaptation of ‘The Quiet American.’ He appears in a starring role in the upcoming Indian crime drama ‘The Field.’
