American novelist Jonathan Safran Foer has reduced the price of his Brooklyn townhouse to $8.65 million.
The “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” author’s Boerum Hill home was first listed for nearly $10.5 million in May, but it failed to find the right buyer. Of course, a townhome with six levels and no elevator does mean it could take a bit longer until the perfect owner comes around.
Buyers shouldn’t be intimidated by the lack of lift, though, because the 26-foot-wide townhouse is absolutely beautiful. Features like inlaid wood floors and a magnificent staircase stand out in a home which boasts an almost impossibly tasteful execution.
Foer had the 8,000-square-foot home completely renovated. It now contains eight bedrooms, 5.5 baths, and a basement. Other spaces include a light-filled third-floor family room opening to a rear terrace, a fourth-floor recreation room, and a second-floor master suite complete with a walk-in closet. There’s also a semi-separate two-bedroom apartment accessible via the garden level.
Safran Foer received acclaim for the novel “Everything is Illuminated,” which he began at Princeton as his graduate thesis. He later was recognized as one of the top up-and-coming young authors after finding success with his acclaimed 9/11 novel, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”
