Ageless Wonder: Toyota’s ‘Century’ Limo Gets Just Its Third Refresh in a Half-Century of Life

A number of future-forward vehicles debuted at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show, but one of the most traditionally designed cars made an indelible impression: the new Toyota Century.

On the surface, Toyota‘s limousine doesn’t appear new at all. But it’s neither vintage nor a vintage-inspired throwback. In fact, this just what the Toyota Century has always looked like, and in a world where it seems like a full-time job to keep up with “new” everything, there’s something refreshing about an unabashedly classic sense of style.

The new Century is just the third update to the model in a half-century of production, and the new limo is a bit longer and taller than the previous iteration, but otherwise as charmingly stodgy as a favorite uncle. This classic vehicle scoffs at the leather-filled creations from Audi and Mercedes with 100-percent wool massaging seats and a classic but updated interior aesthetic.

Toyota’s new Century does boast the most modern machinery under the hood: a hybrid-powered drivetrain and a 5.0-liter V8, which offer the most powerful and fuel-efficient build in the model’s history.
