Triton Submarines LLC and Aston Martin have partnered to create a personal submarine. Which sounds like a very, very interesting collaboration, and a curious side-project for the British automaker.
After showing off its AM37 powerboat at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show, Aston has been hard at work on the Project Neptune submersible. The three-person submarine was designed to allow adventurers to explore the ocean in Aston Martin style. While Triton has been manufacturing personal submersibles for quite some time, none boast the kind of style and luxurious aesthetic, not to mention the unusual styling, of the underwater touring vehicle below.
Featuring a sleek silver body and a seamlessly integrated glasshouse in place of Triton’s bright yellow look, the new personal submarine presents a distinct departure from the usual utilitarianism demanded by Calypso-inspired exploration.
No specs have as yet been revealed. However, if Neptune is anything like Triton’s LP submersible, it will likely feature 5-hp Vertran thrusters, a 30kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, and a 12-hour run time. Pricing TBA.
The Triton/Aston Martin sub is pictured in the first two images below, followed by a survey of other Triton designs.
