As a show of its commitment to Formula E racing, Audi has unveiled its e-tron FE04 Formula E Racer ahead of the start of the 2018 season.
The German automaker has set a major goal of lowering emissions for both road and racing cars, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that the company has introduced its updated electric race car.
With a focus on building an electric series of Formula E vehicles, Audi will run its own team next season with its new e-tron FE04. While the racecar does boast new livery, its structure looks just like last season’s model, since teams aren’t allowed to make changes to the bodywork or the Spark-Renault SRT 01e chassis.
However, the updated vehicle does feature a new carbon fiber housing for an all-new powertrain, in addition to a new motor and gearbox design.
Formula E will be celebrating its fourth season this December. As automakers race their souped-up electric vehicles, brands must also meet certain energy efficiency benchmarks.
Off the track, Audi is set to launch its first mass-market electric vehicle next year.
