Iconic designer Tommy Hilfiger has just reduced the price of his New York City penthouse once again, bringing the asking price to an even $50 million.
The designer and his wife purchased the two units that would eventually become the duplex penthouse back in 2008, paying $25.5 million for both. It’s rumored that the pair spent another $20 million combining the units and turning them into the opulent residence pictured below.
While Hilfiger is known for his preppy-hipster casual brand, the 5,600-square-foot apartment exhibits a more broadly inclusive pop-culture approach to design. The duplex boasts a style all its own with unique elements like checkerboarding, antique mirrors, vintage fireplaces, and four bedrooms boasting different themes.
The pastiche continues throughout the family room, study, eat-in kitchen, paneled library, wet bar, and breakfast room set beneath the Plaza’s iconic dome. The dome is one of the most unique features, finished with a mural by Hillary Knight depicting the children’s book character Eloise.
Even though the unit’s price has been slashed a number of times in recent years, Hilfiger has gone on record saying he and his wife might just keep it if they can’t find the right buyer.
