BMW unveiled a vision of the company’s not-so-distant future in Frankfurt when it presented its first long-range touring all-electric concept vehicle.

They’re calling the concept the i Vision Dynamics, and it’s a four-door, five passenger sedan that drivers won’t feel uneasy about taking on longer excursions. The range of the concept is, BMW claims, 373 miles on a full charge. That should allay the fears of the most acutely afflicted of the charge-anxious.

The car is absolutely a vision of a family car, with a top speed of 120 MPH; the launch to 62 is an impressive 4 seconds. The numbers aren’t staggering, but the i Vision Dynamics is a potential luxury commuter, and a daily driver. And, it may very well turn out to have fully autonomous-driving capability by the time it appears in showrooms.

As a visual indication of where BMW currently sees its i-series heading, the car is striking: the sweeping lines, panoramic design, and body uninterrupted by indentation all give the impression of fluidity, and a sense of continuity with the world outside the cabin.

It’s too early in the game for BMW to be definitively discussing charge time and connection, but, in 2015, the company joined with both Nissan and the VW Group to open hundreds of quick-charge stations in the U.S. that offer both CHAdeMO and SAE connectivity. The stations are allied with ChargePoint, a startup dedicated to simplified access to EV-charging on the road, which has already installed thousands of stations in the U.S. Additionally, ChargePoint has unveiled the ChargeNow card specifically to make the process faster and easier for BMW EV owners.
