Simon Helberg recently picked up a particularly fine hacienda-style property in Carpinteria. Helberg—who played Howard in ‘The Big Bang Theory’—purchased the farm for $5.15 million.
The property had been on the market for about thirteen months when it sold, and had been initially priced at $6.5 million. The asking price had been reduced to $5.98 million prior to the sale.
The estate is known as Veiled Oaks, and is comprised of 6.6 acres of spectacularly sylvan California land; native oaks, yes, but also tropical flora, paddocks, gardens, fruit trees, brick walkways, fountains, riding trails, brick courtyard and patios, and a motor court dominated by a large landscaped centerpiece. A working horse farm, the property contains a barn and stables, as well as a workshop or studio.
The main house—designed in the Spanish Colonial style—dates to 1916, and measures 5,026 square feet. Entirely renovated, it features limestone fireplaces, hardwood floors, a mix of modern and period lighting, and ceilings with exposed beams.
The kitchen features a tray ceiling, and is executed in an effective blend of cottage and more ornate design elements. The master bedroom, also an eye-catcher, features a fireplace, a marvelous series of paned windows, and access to a private terrace with terra-cotta tile floors and an outdoor fireplace. Three out of the four bedrooms in the house have private fireplaces, and are en-suite; there are six baths overall.
Exterior features—apart from those detailed above—include a freeform pool, spa, and sunlounge.
Helberg was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as Cosmé McMoon in last year’s ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’; he was awarded a Critics’ Choice Award for his work on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in 2013. In 2014, he wrote, produced, directed and starred in ‘We’ll Never Have Paris.’
