Luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has just introduced another timepiece that pays homage to actor and race-car driver Steve McQueen.
The square-cased Monaco watch has long been an iconic chronograph in the company’s lineup, so it isn’t surprising that the brand has expanded on the theme with the Monaco Gulf Special Edition.
The unique watch has a special connection to Steve McQueen: the actor helped make the original Monaco watch a sensation after wearing it in the 1971 movie “Le Mans.” Just like the timepiece worn by McQueen’s character in the movie, the special edition watch boasts blue and orange livery stripes. It’s also decorated with the ‘Gulf’ logo.
The beautiful 39mm timepiece features a number of unique elements like a domed sapphire crystal, a blue dial, and a crown to the left of the case, just like the original. Beneath the surface, a TAG Heuer Calibre 11 beats at 4Hz and offers a 40-hour power reserve.
The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition is paired with a blue leather racing strap and is available for $5,900.
