Ice-T’s former home in Hollywood Hills West has appeared on the market for the first time since 2003, when it sold for $2 million. The music-biz legend and actor picked up the home in the early 1990’s for $1.2 million. In late 2017, the home is being offered at a sliver under $9 million.
The colossal contemporary-style was certainly cutting edge when it was built in 1989, and it still makes a striking impression. At just under 4,500 square feet, the chilly amalgamation of glass and industrial influence is a trifle quaint now, but makes a definite statement.
The home’s interiors, on the other hand, make for a curious overall effect. Toning throughout is warm, and that acts as ballast for the glossy stone, steel and LED accents, and jarring use of texture, but it also contributes to the overblown composition. It makes for an interesting and sometimes fascinating postmodern tour, as the cavalcade of surface effect neatly avoids the issue of foundational identity.
By far the most strikingly beautiful room is the solarium/indoor pool, which is bordered by a wall of windows with views of the ocean and city, crowned by a retractable glass roof, and presided over by a massive indoor fireplace. Other notable spaces include the home cinema, full bar and lounge, and built-in aquarium familiar to anyone who followed Ice-T in the 1990’s.
This year saw the release of the Ice-T-fronted band Body Count’s sixth studio effort, ‘Bloodlust’; also this year, Ice-T appeared in the horror/crime drama ‘Bloodrunners.’
