More and more people are foregoing traditional transportation options for more environmentally-friendly alternatives. As a result, there’s more and more money flowing into R&D of alternative personal transport options, and a flowering of unique designs, especially for urban commuters.
London start-up Hummingbird Bike Company‘s newest entry is ideal for the professional who prefers a manual two-wheeler: at just 15 pounds, it’s the world’s lightest folding bike. Currently in production at British motorsport company Prodrive, Hummingbird is crafted using measured slices of carbon fiber that are fused into a super-light, super-strong frame.
The new bike’s design incorporates a special three-step folding system where the back wheel and handlebars fold beneath the frame, and the seat post is lowered. It takes just five seconds to fold the bike, and it’s designed to easily fit in the trunk, or in the corner of an office.
Hummingbird started as a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The bike is available for $4,500.
