Tyler Perry has invested in a very large and very modern home in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood. The actor and writer apparently couldn’t pass up the bargain-priced contemporary, which had been on the market for a little over a year, and was initially offered at a shadow under $30 million. Perry paid $14.5 million for the property, which had been listed at $15.95 million prior to the sale.
The house dates to 1992, and presents an imposing first impression with towering glass walls that suggest a civic building or business complex. It’s nearly large enough to be either, measuring in just shy of 17,250 square feet. It contains seven bedrooms and eleven baths.
The interiors present as breathtaking a sense of scale as the home’s exterior. The common living space sprawls out in a progression of entertainment space, and living and dining areas, in a great room-style layout that rises to expose all three floors. A contemporary-style floating staircase complex connects the floors, and living areas are enhanced by inset garden alcoves.
The home’s exquisite materials include liberal use of beige and black granite: floors, accent walls, steps, and the massive fireplace that dominates the living area are all finished with the stone, which gives the eye a pleasing textural embellishment against the steel and white or off-white. The home also works plank hardwood and built-ins into the interior design, which emphasizes angularity in its expression.
The property exterior features a large motor court that can accommodate 30 cars, a large, lagoon-style pool with grotto, waterfall, and stone outcropping, a tennis court, and dining and entertainment spaces are all included on the 4+ acres of grounds.
Perry’s directorial work extends to nearly forty films and plays. This year sees the release of ‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’; the film will be in theaters this October.
