The house which has replaced Della Reese’s home of three decades has been completed, and it’s entered the market with an asking price of $21.9 million. Reese and husband Franklin Lett sold their classic mid-century modern home to a developer in 2014, for $7.5 million. The contemporary which now stands in its place is a nearly 12,000 square foot trophy designed by ANR Signature Collection.

In its styling, inside and out, the home is very restrained. A midcentury modern-influenced exterior is embellished only by its extravagant use of glass, and abundant interior/exterior flow. The common living area is walled with an expanse of motorized retractable glass that opens to the infinity pool and views of the city. From the wood gates that seal off the property, though, the execution is unadorned, and heavily informed by Japanese design.

In that way, the interior architecture and design represent an absolutely contemporary expression: stark, detached, and quite beautiful, finding relevance in setting. There’s a great deal of wood, but it’s all lightly finished. The visual texture of wood floors, cabinetry and built-ins, as well as stone countertops and backsplashes, become the only ornamental flourishes.

The home’s six bedrooms and seven baths include a six-room master suite. Other amenities—and there are many—include an infinity-edge pool, home cinema, outdoor entertaining pavilion, home fitness center, caterer’s kitchen, wine-tasting room, and library.
