The Malibu home of late comedian and roaster extraordinaire Don Rickles has sold for $6.5 million; the home had been listed on the open market for about eight months. Rickles passed away this April, about four months after offering the house for sale.
Rickles had owned the house for a little over a dozen years. He purchased it in 2003, for $3.3 million. The house is nestled in a particularly sylvan pocket of the Point Dume neighborhood, and contains four bedrooms and 5.5 baths across 3,421 square feet. It dates to 1968, and is designed as a traditional coastal cottage.
The home’s interiors are bright, open and unpretentious. Kitchen and bath upgrades have injected a little modern design fashion into the home, but the wide-plank pine floors, exposed beams, and warm, off-white scheme keeps the home’s atmosphere as easygoing as a day at the beach. A water-view second-floor deck may be accessed via the French doors in the common living area.
The home’s living room, dining room and kitchen flow front-to-back in the usual progression, with a fireplace and much glass along the way to warm and brighten, and ocean views to please the eye. A media/family room with built-ins and an office help to fill out the living spaces. The master suite features a sliding glass door which opens to the roughly one acre of grounds. A tennis court and pool/spa with sunlounge, a patio, a balcony, and fairly expansive lawns fill out the property’s exterior profile.
Rickles—a.k.a. Mr. Warmth—was an actor as well as a stand-up comedian; he played supporting roles in several films, including ‘Casino,’ and starred in the 1970’s television series ‘C.P.O. Sharkey,’ NBC’s answer to CBS’s hit ‘All in the Family.’
