It seems musicians and industry power-brokers Jay-Z and Beyoncé have successfully negotiated terms for the acquisition of their dream house. Rumors suggested the couple had made an offer of $120 million on the Bel-Air spec superhouse about two months ago, but the final sale price for the home reportedly rang up at just under the nine figure threshold: $90 million.
The sale brings to a close a house-hunting saga which has, over roughly the last two years, become a staple of celebrity real estate columns. The property will register as the most expensive home sale in Los Angeles County this year, edging out the sale of David Geffen’s former slice of heaven in Malibu by $5 million.
The couple had been house-hunting and renting in the Los Angeles area for a period of about two years, bidding on a home in Beverly Hills which had been at one time owned by James Bond film produced Albert Broccoli; they were outgunned by designer and filmmaker Tom Ford. This summer they had taken a short-term lease on La Villa Contenta, a lavish estate in Malibu with heavy baroque overtones; the rental’s price tag was $400K/month for the 12,000 square foot residence.
Their new home is considerably larger than their most recent roost, boasting living spaces totaling nearly 40,000 square feet. The contemporary-style is built into a hillside, and incorporates half a dozen connected structures encompassing 30,000 square feet of interior living space. All told, there are eight bedrooms and eleven baths.
The properties amenities include a home cinema with tiered seating, a library with Brazil wood built-ins and, on a lower level, a professional office or studio space, and a massive fitness center with a sauna, hot tub, and gymnasium. There are four pools and a helipad on the property, and most of the abundant glass is bullet-proof. A high-profile home, to say the least.
Jay-Z released his latest studio effort in hard copy last month. The album, a musically and philosophically ambitious tour-de-force called ‘4:44,’ has been widely critically acclaimed. Beyoncé has been busy this year with her newest clothing line, Ivy Park. The couple had twins earlier this summer.
