For 2018, Ford’s Performance division will be presenting an edition of the GT in an even more limited production run than the standard GT. The model variation is designed as an homage model for the Le Man’s-winning Ford GT40 MKIV, which took home top honors from the 24-hour endurance race in 1967 at the hands of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt.

The livery is where the edition begins and ends—no engine tweaks, no suspension upgrades. The GT is already the pinnacle of Ford’s design muscle, and it may not have been possible to squeeze much more in the way of performance from the already acute design.

What the Heritage Edition GT does receive is a special livery in the colors of the GT40 MKIV, which begin with a Race Red paint job accented with a bold white stripe running along the center of the body from nose to rear. Exposed carbon fiber, and 20” aluminum wheels with black lugs and red calipers, gives the car a decidedly contemporary appeal.

The Heritage Edition also receives racing number stickers—‘No. 1’—as well as a special interior color scheme, and special trim materials. The car is outfitted with special leather trim offset with red stitching, and dark brushed aluminum and carbon fiber for console, instrument panel, and door sills, among other cabin components. Wheel and paddle shifters are changed, too, with the wheel receiving a high-gloss treatment, and the paddle shifters rendered in grey.

The Heritage Edition GT will be produced in a currently undisclosed number of examples. Pricing has yet to be announced by the company.
