Vacheron Constantin has introduced a new line of timepieces designed to pay homage to Nicolas Copernicus.
The Métiers d’Art Copernicus celestial spheres 2460 RT collection draws inspiration from the works and period of the Polish mathematician and astronomer. The unique watches boast baroque-style works inspired by Andreas Cellarius, a 17th-century Dutch-German cartographer.
Since Copernicus theorized that the Earth spins on its axis with a Moon satellite, it should come as no surprise that the timepieces are decked out in a variety of celestial motifs.
There are three different designs in the new collection, but each sport an oval center with a hand-engraved pink gold sun paired with a decorated outer disc. Each watch is also equipped with a self-winding caliber 2460 RT movement with 36-hours of power reserve.
The first version of the collection includes a Grand Feu enameled dial with art featuring the astronomical map drawn by Andreas Cellarius. Wearers will gaze upon a champlevé Grand Feu Earth and a beautiful map of the sky.
The second piece in the Métiers d’Art Copernicus line boasts a white gold dial complete with overlapping signs of the zodiac, while the third timepiece features a white-and-blue dial complete with gold continents and white oceans.
Pricing for the series starts at $94,000.
