Acura let the world have a first look at its redesigned RLX luxury sedan. Although it will be formally introduced this month at the Monterey Car Week, Acura has revealed the revised model as a little appetizer during the lead-up to the show.
The cosmetic appeal of the RLX is vastly improved for next year’s model. The company has put a lot of time and money into an image upgrade, and the fascia of the new RLX reflects the shift.
The first impression, as seen from the front, is dominated by a pentagon-pattern grille with a more prominent brand logo. The sharp nose is gone—the 90’s blandness with it—and the hood is sculpted for a dramatically fluid look. New wheels, a striking rear diffuser, and LED taillights are among the other noticeable differences displayed by what Acura is calling a ‘transitional’ model. To enhance the car’s image, Acura is offering two new colors for the RLX, Brilliant Red Metallic and Majestic Black Pearl.
The 2018 RLX will be offered in a base model and Sport Hybrid model. Both are equipped with a 3.5L V6, but the base model lacks the three electric motors of the Sport Hybrid; horsepower ratings check in at 310 for the base model and 377 for the Sport Hybrid with the electric motors in action. And, while the base model receives Acura’s All-Wheel Steer, the Sport Hybrid is enhanced with AWD.
Drivers will be aided by Adaptive cruise and traffic jam assisted operation; they’ll also have their ears massaged by a Krell audio system, a nice touch indeed.
The 2018 RLX will be in showrooms in November. Pricing TBD.
