While it might seem like the smartwatch is replacing traditional timepieces, iconic watch brands are catching up, and making more and more of an impression with their own new athletic timepieces.
Richard Mille is one of the luxe watchmakers offering new pieces targeted toward top athletes. In fact, the new Richard Mille RM 67-02 High Jump and RM 67-02 Sprint have been introduced in honor of the 2017 World Championships in Athletics.
Olympic medallists Wayde van Niekerk and Mutaz Essa Barshim are two of the brand’s newest ambassadors who will be wearing the special watches at the championship event this month.
The RM 67-02 Sprint watch takes inspiration from the Richard Mille RM 67-01, but is a much sportier interpretation. It boasts a 38.7 mm case, water resistance up to 98 feet, and a bright green case with yellow accents in honor of Niekerk’s country of South Africa.
The RM67-02 High Jump is nearly identical, but boasts a red case with white bands as a tribute to Barshim’s country of Qatar.
Both new timepieces feature a caliber CRMA7 self-winding movement and ultra-light materials that make them the lightest automatic watches offered by Mille.
The new Richard Mille watches are now available for around $153,000.
