Edward Norton’s Beachfront Property in Malibu Now Renting for $15K/Month

Following his purchase of an unusually impressive home in Malibu’s Colony, actor Edward Norton is offering a bungalow on Las Flores Beach for rent at $15K/month.

Norton—a three-time Academy Award nominee—purchased the bohemian-inflected home in 2008, and is apparently reticent to let it go. That’s understandable, as the house has retained the tumbledown, easygoing charm of a mid-century beach house.

A Malibu getaway with a discrete double floor/double suite design, with each apartment entirely self-sufficient, the home measures about 1,500 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and two baths. The top floor gets the pair, with the lower level’s layout features a single.

An artful renovation has probably improved on the spirit of the place. In its current state, it’s an idealized vision of a Malibu artist’s or writer’s beach cottage from the middle of the last century.

The emphasis on the lower level is on the rustic: raw wood, and lots of it, ceilings, walls and cabinetry. Floors are matte finished plank. The kitchen and bath are tight, but the wood lends a feeling of coziness to the spaces. The bedroom is on the small side of compact, but opens broadly via French doors to a beachfront deck.

The upper level gets a whitewashed brick fireplace, a galley kitchen on the slim side of narrow, a child’s or guest bedroom, and a main bedroom, again with beachfront views. Small, but, one would imagine, pleasant to fall asleep in, and a joy to wake into.

Norton’s film credits include a pair of Wes Anderson films, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ and ‘Moonrise Kingdom.’ More recently, he lent his voice to a third, the upcoming ‘Isle of Dogs’; the film is expected to see theatrical release next year.
