Hotel developer and manager Sam Domb’s spectacular UWS townhome has hit the market, priced at $14.25 million. Domb purchased the property in 2002, for $6.75 million.
An 8,200 square-foot limestone mansion, the residence dates to the turn of the 20th century, and spans six floors. There are five bedrooms and six baths throughout.
The townhome’s exterior is in the Elizabethan revival style with a turreted entrance. The arched recessed entrance is accented by a carved stone pediment, and flanked by a pair of lantern sconces.
The home’s interiors begin with a grand foyer and sitting room which is grounded by a fireplace with a limestone mantel. A staircase and elevator are located on the left and right, and marble floors lead into the kitchen, where French doors open to the garden.
As the residence progresses, the common areas continue on the parlor level, where the dining and living rooms are situated. The master suite occupies the entire third floor, with additional bedrooms, media room and den, and upper level terraces on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors, and on the roof.
The craftsmanship throughout the home is extraordinary, and the eye is well occupied with the various fireplaces, inlaid wood floors, crown moldings, and period fixtures. The home was renovated and converted from apartments, but the revision was conducted with extraordinary sensitivity. The changes have brought tasteful modernity to the kitchen and baths, especially, which contrasts very effectively with the more ornate period details, such as intricately carved Ionic details on hardwood pilasters, the breathtaking hardwood staircase, and the quaint presence of a brick kitchen fireplace.
