‘Naked Gun,’ ‘Airplane!’ Director Jerry Zucker Chops Asking Price Down to $15.5M in Brentwood

Writer, producer and director Jerry Zucker—best known as one third of the legendary comedy film-making team Zucker/Abrahams—has re-listed his home in Brentwood with a dramatic price reduction. Zucker listed the house initially last spring with an asking price of $16.5 million. He is now asking $15.45 million for the property.

A sprawling Colonial-style mansion with a winged footprint, the home dates to 1939, and measures about 10,000 square feet. Zucker has resided in the home since 1990, and purchased it for a little over $4 million.

The home’s setting has much to do with how the living spaces are expressed: green, secluded and forest-like, the grounds’ fantastical mood influences the general coziness of the house. There is little flash here, and a great deal of understated charm as a result.

Craftsmanship details like stone or narrow-plank flooring, tiled fireplace surrounds, and a stained glass window give the interiors authenticity. French doors and abundant glass provide plenty of natural light. Décor is rendered in cottagey charm, with variegated wallpapers and period-style light fixtures. Many rooms—the kitchen is a good example—balance warm and cool tones quite beautifully; the kitchen’s green marble island cap is lovely contrasted with the wood floors, the skylight overhead lending a sense of liberation.

The home contains six bedrooms—all en-suite—and a dozen baths. The master isn’t as large as expected, but it’s very comfortable, with a fireplace, a walk-in closet, and a bath which evokes past and present with sophisticated understatement.

The home contains a fitness room, a library, and an office, as well as a large home cinema. The property exterior includes a deck, a large patio, stone walkways and gardens in the romantic style, and a detached guest house.

Zucker’s directing, producing and writing credits include ‘Airplane!,’ ‘Ruthless People’ and ‘Naked Gun’; brother David Zucker often shared all three duties, along with longtime collaborator Jim Abrahams.
