Kanye West Finally Offloads His Chilly Hollywood Hills Contemporary for $3M

Rap artist Kanye West has sold a longtime home in Hollywood Hills West. West accepted an offer of $2.95 million for the contemporary-style house; he’d owned the property for nearly fifteen years, and he’d seen it on and off the market for over six. West had initially listed the home with an asking price of nearly $4 million. He purchased it in 2003, for $1.75 million.

The poured concrete exterior of the boxy house tells the tale. It’s a heavily stylized statement: imposing, industrial and ponderous. The build dates to 2002.

Unabashedly 21st century, the interiors are fairly bland and quite stark. Plank walnut floors bring a little warmth to the proceedings, and the natural texture seems both essential and out of place; it’s tough to imagine the place without that modicum of half-hearted naturalism, and yet without it the home would feel entirely lost. The stone employed as flooring material in other rooms of the house seems more appropriate, but leaves the home feeling entirely sterile.

The home’s toning is nonexistent, and provided for with décor. Light fixtures are recessed LED ceiling units or contemporary chandeliers. There is a good amount of glass, allowing for a sun-saturated effect of the interiors, and bits of visual interest such as the dining room ceiling fresco and the accent-wall aquarium pass as the expected contrivances.

The home’s smart-tech is extraordinary, and everything that can be automated may be smart-device controlled, including colored lighting from the ceiling fixtures for whims of ambiance.

Producer and musician Kanye West’s stage shows are noted for their theatricality; the fact that he’s also a successful fashion designer is hardly surprising. His most recent studio effort was 2016’s ‘Life of Pablo’; the album, of course, went platinum.
