Celebrity Chef Rachael Ray Seeks $4.9M for Airy Southampton Home

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray has just listed a little estate in Southampton for sale. Ray is asking $4.9 million for the home after owning it for nearly a decade; she purchased it in the summer of 2008, for $2.1 million.

The property abuts the Southampton Golf Club, and stretches to over six acres of rolling verdant land. A pleasant East Coast retreat, the estate offers solitude and relaxation.

The house dates to 1994, and is a single-story with a mainly traditional ranch design. It measures about 3,500 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and five baths.

The home’s interiors are dominated by the ethereal atmosphere, sustained from the outset and throughout much of the house. Ceilings and walls are white or off-white, and floors are white oak. There is a good measure of glass in the design, including several skylights. The ceilings of the home are mostly coffered, but in a very understated manner; the living room ceiling features a fairly dramatic tray effect.

With its open-concept living area, and the abundance of reflected light, the home’s sense of space is beguiling. As a result, the kitchen is cozy but not cramped, and living and dining rooms flow into one another very well. It’s not a large home, and far nearer to country-cottage unprepossessing than grandiose, but the way the spaces are expressed defies their limitations.

Beside the pool there is a guest house. With a living space floored with brick, and a large window array, it’s bright, airy, and charming.

Ray’s cookbook authorship runs to nearly thirty titles, and her television shows have brought her three Emmy Awards. But her empire now extends to a general lifestyle brand under her name, including pre-made foodstuffs, a full line of kitchen and dining accoutrements, and a range of high-protein pet food.
