Dodgers Skipper Dave Roberts Settles into La Cañada Flintridge with $2.8M Home Buy

L.A. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently purchased a home in La Cañada Flintridge. The ranch-style home ran the former outfielder $2.75 million. Roberts went a little over the listing price to secure the sale, as the house had been listed at $2.7 million prior to closing. The home last sold in 2005, for $2.13 million. It had been initially listed in May of this year.

The house dates to 1946, and has been extensively remodeled in recent years. It measures 3,600 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and four baths in an en-suite layout.

The exterior of the home is distinguished by pleasing ornament: stacked stone, faux-Tudor flourishes, and leaded glass windows. An attached pergola extends from the roofline.

From the foyer, it’s clear that the revisions to the house have only enhanced its period charm. Narrow plank floors, segmented arches, and stenciled wallpaper greet the eye, and a raised ceiling gives it a nice sense of space from the outset.

The home is expressed mainly through warmth. A great deal of wood—including exposed beams, dark wainscoting, and window and door surrounds—as well as hardwood or slate floors give the spaces a soft, natural atmosphere.

The common living area is open-concept beneath a vaulted, open-trussed ceiling, and the tiled floors offer a little touch of visual diversion. The floor-to-ceiling fireplace reaching up to the ceiling adds a comfortably rustic dignity to the room. A series of triangular clerestory windows is positioned over a broad set of French doors which open to the patio.

Another fireplace abuts the patio, bringing the home’s sense of interior charm to the outdoor living area. A summer kitchen, and a pool and spa extend from the slate patio.

Roberts retired from professional baseball in 2009. After transitioning to ESPN as an analyst, he turned to coaching. He joined the Dodgers last year.
