While most don’t think of pickup trucks when they hear the name Mercedes-Benz, that might soon change. The luxury automaker is set to debut the first premium pickup truck series, the X-Class.

Mercedes-Benz is hard at work on two variations of the concept, one tricked out, and one more utilitarian. The X-Class will feature the hallmarks of a strong truck—durability, strength, and off-road functionality—but Mercedes’ take on the workhorse staple will certainly distinguish itself as a Mercedes, with style and luxury to spare.

Both X-Class concept models boast a sleeker, more stylish interpretation of the classic mid-sized pickup. Possible features include a ladder-type frame, high-torque six-cylinder engine, and all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line edition is expected to boast a V6 diesel paired with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

“With the Mercedes-Benz pickup, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio. Our target: We want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment,” said Dieter Zetsche, the Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Of course, performance isn’t everything. The Mercedes X-Class will probably be the most luxurious pickup available with high-end materials, ergonomic seating, and an advanced infotainment system.
