Jaguar’s 575-Horsepower XJR Gets an Auspicious Unveiling

The newest Jaguar XJ-series car, the XJR575, builds on last year’s XJR’s power and road presence while improving the XJR’s technological array.

With 25 additional horses on tap over the 2017 XJR’s 550, the 575’s 5.0L supercharged V8 gets a bit of tuning over and above the 2017 XJR. The transmission is also the same 8-speed sequential-shift automatic, and the 575, like the 2017 XJR, is a RWD car. The speed numbers are increased, though, and the 575 will get to 60 in 4.2 seconds, and 186 MPH if desired; an improvement over the 2017 XJR’s 4.4 second time, and 174 MPH top speed for changes which are significant, and impressive for a passenger sedan.

Where design language is concerned, the 575 shares many of the same parts as the 2017 XJR, but it does receive cosmetic changes like gloss black exterior trim, as well as a pair of new paint colors. Satin Corris Gray has the shadowy appeal that’s all the rage right now—JLR chose that color to represent the car in press photos—but Velocity Blue is also available.

Interior cosmetics include cabin flourishes like diamond-stitched leather trim, and red accent stitching to match the model’s red brake calipers. ‘575’ is on display in red throughout the cabin, on each seat, and on the dash.

The infotainment system has been upgraded; a necessary change, as the XJR was a little lacking. The 575 gets a 10” touchscreen as a comprehensive control, and improved connectivity for the 4G Wi-Fi. Safety improvements include lane keep assist and automated emergency braking.

Deliveries will begin late this year. Jaguar has yet to announce pricing for the model, but the 2017 XJR base stickered at $119K.
