Fashion designer Stella McCartney is offering her cottage in the Hamptons as a rental. McCartney and her husband, Hunter creative director Alasdhair Willis purchased the home in Amagansett about a year ago for $1.7 million. The couple is offering it as a short-term lease for $20K-30K, depending on the season.
An excellent example of the old real estate adage—location, location location—the boxy house isn’t much to look at, and draws much of its charm from its sandy setting. But the interiors feature plentiful glass, vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, and wide-plank pine floors. The kitchen is galley-style, and quite cozy, and works in a breakfast bar at the far wall; cabinets are simple, natural finished oak.
The house was built in 1972. It encompasses 1,350 square feet, with three bedrooms and two baths on its single floor. The home’s bedrooms offer limited light, and the bathrooms, like the kitchen, are more than a little dated. The common area, which faces the water, is open and bright, and gets most of the home’s attention.
Idyllic, peaceful and seemingly remote, the beachfront lot measures a little less than a half acre, and looks across the water to Montauk. The setting is marvelous.
McCartney, daughter to Paul, had a successful career in the fashion industry before launching her own business in 2001. The Stella McCartney label now appears on a full range of clothing and accessories for men, women, and children, and is distributed globally.
