Tuning company Startech—who specializes in custom revisions of Italian and English vehicles—had a go at this Land Rover Defender, and the result is a backcountry rig with an aristocratic appeal.
Startech hails from California, but they’re a division of German’s Brabus, a company which also owns TechArt. Startech tunes luxury SUVs and crossovers, and, while they’ve modified a Bentley Bentayga and a Maserati Levante in their project history, they specialize in customizing JLR vehicles.
The Defender pictured below seems to be the most rough-n-ready offering Startech has yet unveiled. Made for a champagne picnic in a wild and far flung location, the vehicle incorporates an obsessive level of detail. The interior of the car sports yards of custom leather upholstery in cream and tan, enhanced by a thin strip of blue for a little visual interest; they didn’t ignore the roll bar, either, and it sports its own leather casing.
The leather-clad steering wheel and aluminum pedals are custom-made by the company. The sound system, equally at home broadcasting a high-quality remaster of Eugene Ormandy or Roy Orbison, sports a series of Swell loudspeakers including a subwoofer. A custom wood floor in the rear hides storage bins.
The exterior of the rig features 18” Monostar D wheels in black, a modified front end with a distinctive hood, a pair of grille lamps and a quartet of lamps above the windscreen, and aluminum running boards.
