Investor and shlock cinema writer, producer and director James Glickenhaus, known among car aficionados for his spectacular collection of rare and exotic cars—most notably a custom made Pininfarina Ferrari and Ferrari Competizione—has for the past few years been working on a track and production model of his own.
Now, the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003 models have been granted the green light to enter into formal production. The cars had formerly been available as a kit, but the company has been given low-volume manufacturer status by the NHTSA, and may produce up to 325 cars a year.
The company is expecting to make far fewer examples in their first two years of production. Only a handful of examples will roll out of the company’s manufacturing facility, which is currently located in upstate New York. SCG is planning to open a larger facility once it gains the footing to make it worthwhile.
The models to be offered will be the street-legal SCG003S and 003CS, as well as the track-only monster the SCG003C; that car dazzled at Nurburgring this year, and the company offers global competition support for buyers.
The SCG003S is the everyday variant, and features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a 4.4L V8 capable of producing 750 horsepower, and a seven-speed sequential dual-disc gearbox. The car’s top speed is 217 MPH, and it will jump to 60 in under 2.9 seconds.
The SCG003CS stands as the envoy between street and competition-only models, and bears some of the features of the 003C, such as a function-over-luxury race-oriented cabin.
Pricing starts at $2 million for the SCG003S. The company is currently taking orders for 2018 production.
