Rosie O’Donnell has picked up a penthouse condo in Manhattan. The comedian and actress spent $8 million on the unit, which sits comfortably atop the Sterling Plaza building on East 49th. The property had been listed with an asking price of $8.45 million prior to the sale, and had been on the market for about two and a half months.
A truly beautiful apartment, the triplex unit measures 3,563 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and three baths. The living area features a black granite fireplace and a mix of window styles, and incorporates effortless flow from dining room through living room; a wet bar is ensconced on the margins, and features an illuminated onyx cap.
The kitchen includes Corian counters and a large island, as well as dual appliances. The place is designed for entertaining, and the kitchen, like the bar, is intended to impress. A large-capacity wine refrigerator and an integrated espresso station are included.
The apartment’s design is strikingly tasteful—it’s fully up to date, but more elegant that chilly. Russian oak floors, custom lighting, and a variety of surprising details distinguish the home, but the staircase may be the heart of the unit. Taking inspiration from the Guggenheim, the design features hardwood treads and risers, LED step lighting, and a solid balustrade with a softly graceful line.
Bedrooms extend to the main and lower floors of the apartment; the master suite is situated on the main floor, and incorporates a bath with a steam shower. The lower floor contains a pair of bedrooms, and features a private entrance, as well as a sauna and Jacuzzi tub.
The top floor of the apartment is ideal for warm-weather entertaining, and features a kitchen, a bar, and an integrated sound and light system.
O’Donnell is co-star of Showtime’s new series SMILF; the program will launch this fall.
