Designer John Procario, known for creating gracefully functional fixtures which merge natural and technological materials, has an illuminative new series for those who would like to distinguish their work or living spaces: the Freeform Luminaire Lights.
Procario spent years in his father’s carpentry workshop, and his special talent for woodworking is on acute display in his newest lighting creations. The sculptural pieces are meant to function as metaphors for the human body: fluidity, expression, and tension.
The artist utilized ribboned paper to twist and turn each piece into his desired shape. After, wood is used to replicate the ribbon’s shape. The resulting creations include Freeform Series Light Sculpture I, Sculpture II, and Sculpture III.
Each of the three light creations boasts a uniquely undulating shape, and all three pieces are rendered from different materials. Each is finished with a different treatment, including white oil, natural oak, and polished aluminum.
