BMW has revealed new Black Fire Editions of the X5 M and X6 M SUVs because, according to the German automaker’s press release, “Black is powerful, black is exciting, and black is exclusive.”
The marketing rhetoric falls a little short. We’re not sure how exclusive it is these days, but sales of all-black cars, motorcycles and bikes speak for the fact that basic black is perceived as powerful and exciting. And, it’s frequently more than a little beautiful.
Enter the X5 M and X6 M Black Fire Editions. The M models were given a special Sapphire Black Metallic paint job, paired with a black M on the double kidney grille with matching black bars, both of which are just for the special edition.
Furthermore, the 21-inch M alloy wheels are black and the mirror caps have been finished in carbon in order to maintain the murdered-out look.
The interiors have been given black Merino leather paired with a Mugello Red trim. A piano black finish darkens the cabin even further, allowing the fire of the Mugello Red interior to really blaze.
Powering the X5 M and X6 M is a 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 575 horsepower and makes the 0-to-62 mph sprint in just 4.2 seconds. This powerplant sends juice to the wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox.
BMW will make the Black Fire Edition models available starting in August of this year.
