‘That 70’s Show’ alum Topher Grace has listed a loft residence in the West Village for sale. The actor is asking $4.25 million for the property, a unit in a pre-war building located near Bleecker Street. Grace purchased the unit in 2004, for $2.2 million, and kept it as a rental property for several years in the 2010’s.
The floor-through unit is over 60 feet long, and quite narrow, which makes for loft-style living at its most eccentric. Walls are exposed brick, which, together with the cherry-finished plank floors, makes for a lot of warmth. Periodically a bit of cool toning evens things out, though, most notably in the kitchen.
The loft’s historical details include exposed pipes and ductwork, and a lovely original tin ceiling. A barn door has been added to provide privacy for the office/reading room. The home features a key-lock elevator entrance.
Throughout, the industrial history of the area and the building is enhanced by being embellished, even exaggerated; the poured concrete master bath, which is capped with a guard light, comments on a new relevance for the style. Elsewhere, lighting is a utilitarian blend of track, directional, and ceiling units, matching the rest of the décor and fittings well.
A small kitchen, built-ins, and many oversized windows round out the property. A charmingly stripped-down loft-style with few pretensions.
Grace’s turn as Venom Eddie in 2007’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ drew accolades, and gave the actor the chance to work with Sam Raimi. 2017 sees the actor busy, with five films in theaters, including ‘Delirium,’ in which he plays the lead.
