‘America’s Top Model’ creator Tyra Banks recently picked up a home in Pacific Palisades. Banks, a gifted businesswoman who is no stranger to wheeling and dealing in the real-estate market, purchased the property for $1.36 million.
The Spanish modern house dates to 1977, and represents a nice amalgam of styles, mixing Spanish revival exterior design elements with a midcentury interior. Some of the nicer interior design features include the traditional contrast of ethereal white with fundamental dark wood, the use of open-design staircases, and the focus of the common living area: a huge corner fireplace with a raised and extended hearth.
A very open-feeling house, the interior architecture is designed to liberate from a sense of confinement: railing-free staircases, a great deal of glass, and ceiling designs and ported accent walls that continually offer a sense of release. Handled so artfully, the 1,800 square feet seem more expansive.
The tiered design of the common living spaces, with the kitchen, dining room and den located a half-flight up, gives the home a little mystery. The living room near the foyer opens broadly onto an outdoor porch/terrace floored with terra-cotta tile, allowing interior and exterior living to flow naturally out of one another.
The house contains two en-suite bedrooms and an additional half bath.
Last year, Banks offloaded another L.A.-area home she’d owned since 2004, selling it for $3 million over her purchase price. She listed her Riverhouse condo in Manhattan last month, asking $18 million for that property.
As of this year, Banks is the host of ‘America’s Got Talent.’
