Singer and guitarist Charles Kelley—co-founding member of the hit country act Lady Antebellum—has sold his home in Music City. The charismatic musician accepted an offer of $2.91 million for the property, which had been listed at $3.2 million prior to the sale. Kelley and his wife Cassie purchased the estate in 2012, for $1.6 million.

The main residence on the property dates to the early 1940’s.  A colonial revival with a white brick exterior, green shutters and a hipped roof, the house features a large paneled window over the entrance which illuminates the centrally located staircase. It measures a little over 6,680 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and six full or partial baths.

With a step-down formal dining room and an open common space that features a gracefully arcing pair of steps leading up to the living room, the house’s living areas often transition through suggestion; the living room is bordered by pillars and a partial wall from the ceiling, marking the room as both open and semi-contained.

Floors are generally narrow-plank hardwood finished in dark walnut; the dark tones are offset nicely by a great deal of whitewash, and recessed fixtures placed at regular intervals bring in an element of the contemporary against the natural texture of the wood grain.

Overall, the library, or study/salon, is probably the most striking room in the house, rendered in a somewhat ponderous deep aquamarine with a period ceiling fixture setting the atmosphere, and a fireplace with a simple limestone mantel adding to the intense dose of charm. The family room, though, with wallpaper only slightly less ornate than the chandelier, gets top points for overplaying its hand.

The property incorporates a pool and a pool/guest house, which is currently purposed as a game room and retreat. The lot measures over an acre and a half, and features a lovely brick patio amid sylvan grounds which are well-landscaped toward the romantic style.

Kelley co-founded Lady Antebellum in 2006. The trio’s most recent studio effort is ‘Heart Break’; the album was released in January, and showed the group moving away from its home base of Nashville for creative inspiration.
