The new Lighthouse home monitor combines two devices in one: an electronic assistant and security camera. And it performs both functions equally well.

Lighthouse is an advanced interactive assistant complete with a camera that delivers highlights from the day to the user’s smartphone. This feature would enable a parent to find out when their kids got home or whether their dog was let out.

The tech start-up focuses on ways users can remain connected while apart. In fact, users are able to personalize notifications and alerts for when they aren’t home.

Lighthouse is able to compete with products like the Nest security camera and Amazon Alexa thanks to integrated computer vision. The unique new device is able to distinguish between different people, and between people and animals, to avoid false security alarms.

The advanced security device comes as a unit with three subscription options: $399 for the unit with a one-year subscription, $499 with three years of service, and $599 with five years.

Lighthouse is now available for preorder, and will ship in September.
