Lil Wayne accepted an offer of $10 million for his waterfront home in Miami. Built for the amateur ichthyologist and/or Bond villain, the house incorporates a koi pond and a shark lagoon in its design, though never the twain should meet. Wayne has had the property up for sale for a couple of years; it hit the market initially in 2015, with an asking price of $18 million. The asking price prior to the sale was $12 million. Wayne purchased the home in 2011 for $11.6 million.
Measuring a substantial 15,100 square feet, with nine bedrooms and ten baths, the house is an imposing mix of utilitarian and luxe-contemporary styles that works modern and contemporary design elements into a whole which, from its motor-court, looks somewhat institutional, resembling a campus building. A commercial-grade elevator in brushed stainless cinches the house as an aspiring civic complex.
Inside, the sense of scale is fairly breathtaking. Four floors of glass and a double-height living area present a space which overwhelms; the transition from first floor ceiling to soaring second-floor is very liberating. A spiral staircase leads from the third level to the huge second-level gallery, which in turn looks down to the first floor living area, giving the place a wide-open, tiered effect. A duplex master suite continues the trend.
The aesthetic sways from industrial loft to contemporary, with stone floors and understated light fixtures. The house contains a wet bar, a fitness studio, and a pair of kitchens, one of which is very restaurant-style. The effect overall is very chilly, incredibly expansive, and, overall, nicely executed as a higher-end contemporary statement.
The house’s exterior features include a rooftop skate park, a pool and covered outdoor lounge area, a second-floor terrace, and 120’ of frontage near Biscayne Bay.
Wayne is the recipient of five Grammy awards; widely considered one of the most influential rap artists in the history of the genre, his worldwide record sales total over 100 million units.
