Actor Joel Kinnaman’s sale of his home in the Hollywood Hills to a new owner came in at $2.25 million, more than a little under the asking price of about $2.8 million; the sale did not represent a loss for the star of ‘The Killing,’ however, with the Mediterranean-style selling at very close to his purchase price.

A 1970’s design, the home’s exterior is Spanish revival, but the interiors perhaps owe to the influence of the Greek Isles, with an ethereally whitewashed interior extending to the ceilings, lots of soft arches, an open staircase, and a couple of supporting columns in the Doric style. Oak flooring provides some contrasting warmth and texture, which grounds all the indeterminate white.

The house measures a little more than 2,540 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Bathrooms and kitchens have been updated; baths feature period-evocative fixtures and aesthetic, and the kitchen’s cabinetry in contrasting maple gives the room a little natural iridescence which is very appealing, and not too busy. A good measure of glass and an open concept establish a nice sense of flow and continuity.

The master suite features a small fireplace, with a tiled hearth step and a raw hardwood and stone mantel; the master fireplace is in stark contrast stylistically to the clunky poured concrete behemoth which reigns in the living area. A window seat and outdoor balcony are also worked into the suite; the master bath features some weathered, warm-toned tile, and a bay window which allows for an extended sense of space.

Kinnaman’s roles take him regularly from his adopted L.A. to his native Stockholm. He has lent his quiet intensity to the Fincher remake of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and AMC’s series ‘The Killing’; he is currently filming the Netflix sci-fi series ‘Altered Carbon’ in British Columbia.
