Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr are spending their honeymoon on the private Fijian island of Laucala. The island, which was purchased in 2003 by Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, is now home of one of the most desirable tropical getaway resorts in the Pacific.
Mateschitz purchased the island from the Forbes family for about ten million EUR in 2003, and contracted Lynne Hunt London to transform it into a private resort. Laucala now incorporates twenty-five themed villas, a restaurant, a golf club, a spa, and a pair of bars in its three miles or so of land mass.
The resort sprawls over 3,500 acres of land, and incorporates a huge, lagoon-like pool, a raised pool with glass walls, and the pool bar mentioned above for swim-up service. Villas feature private decks overlooking the landscape and ocean, with a few of the cabins perched over water, or located far from the resort complex, for absolute privacy and quiet. Most are constructed from stone and timber, and feature traditional-looking roofs of the Pacific Islands.
Throughout the complex, winding paths, water, lush gardens and forest and romantic footpaths weave between the villas and public spaces; the concept of the design makes the natural beauty of the place its purpose, and natural imagery was used liberally by London in the décor and embellishments. It’s fairly entrancing, and certainly an ideal resort for a honeymoon.
Kerr and Spiegel were married about two weeks ago. She is an Australian supermodel; he is the co-founder and CEO of Snapchat.
Spiegel’s net worth is estimated at $4 billion.
