Newly-minted Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has listed an equestrian-oriented compound in Colorado for sale. The legal eagle is looking for a buyer with $1.675 million and a love of horses to fall in love with the place, a three acre chunk of rolling hills and woodland just outside of Boulder. Gorsuch purchased the property about a decade ago, for a little over $1 million.
The house—which dates to 1990—is more or less a modern iteration of a French country style, with hipped, shingled rooflines, and a taupe brick and timber façade punctuated with a good measure of glass. There are five bedrooms and five baths amid a little less than 6,000 square feet.
The house’s interior is gentleman cowboy all the way: a library with dramatically coffered ceiling and built-ins in a mahogany finish speaks volumes. A pair of fireplaces with step hearths—in the family room, stacked stone and elevated—rounded arches, and a nice mixture of window shapes set off the generally warm tones, and mid-toned hardwood accents add even more warmth to the relaxed atmosphere. Things get a trifle dark occasionally, with a wood-tone overload, but overall the house is a nicely executed cultured country affair.
The property incorporates a heated pool, a barn, and an orchard. The grounds border a 71-acre equestrian center. Trails abound for the horseback rider, on and off the property. The Rocky Mountain views are stunning.
Gorsuch was confirmed as the 113th Supreme Court Justice in early April.
