Beverly D’Angelo has put a home in Los Angeles up for sale. The actress is asking $2.8 million for the property, a Spanish eclectic in Beverly Hills which she’s owned for about twelve years. D’Angelo purchased the house in 2005, for $2.35 million.
The house dates to 1929. Exterior features include whitewashed stucco and terra-cotta roof tiles, and a good mix of window shapes. A small courtyard with a water feature centerpiece sets off the rear of the property, and second-floor balconies with wrought-iron balustrades add period charm.
Within, original hardwood—nicely weathered after nearly ninety years—and plaster walls give the home some immediate historical cred. Lots of soft arches, usually fairly dramatic, and the softening effect of plaster finishing give the home the quiet gentleness one hopes to see in a Spanish of the era.
There are five bedrooms and 4.5 baths throughout the 4,050 square feet of the home. A curved staircase provides the grand focus for the interior, and is conspicuously visible from the step-down living room.
Ceilings are vaulted, and dark-finished raw wood beams add rustic flavor. The ceiling of the dining room is sculpted slightly, and connection to the day room and kitchen via an arched entryway and a two-way door keeps the dining room from being overly formal.
Aside from the obligatory pool, a covered porch with an attached pergola and tiled floor beckons in good weather.
From her leading role in 1979’s Milos Forman-directed ‘Hair,’ D’Angelo has been a mainstay of screens large and small; along with Sissy Spacek, she performed her own songs in ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter,’ echoing Patsy Cline. In 2015, she reprised her role as Ellen Griswold in the warmed-over ‘Vacation.’
