BMW Motorrad introduced a new concept motorcycle for the future as part of the company’s Vision Next 100 campaign. The German institution has revealed its newest look at how it views the future of urban riding with the BMW Motorrad Concept Link.

While the new Concept Link is not an actual product announcement or preview of a coming production, the fact that BMW Motorrad is thinking of a scooter of the future has to have urban commuters pretty excited. Its four-wheeled cousin is the wild Vision Next 100 concept car revealed by the company last year.

The Concept Link shows off how electric scooters can evolve the scooter market, using the space that usually houses the motor, exhaust, and fuel tank in different and creative ways.

For this particular concept, the electric motor is found on the rear wheel, with the flat, somewhat heavy engine found on the underfloor of the scooter, which is actually a great place for a heavy battery to be as it helps lower the center of gravity on the Concept Link. And, it frees up the space between the seat and the floor to be used for storage.

Drawings illustrate that the Concept Link ditches the usual instrument cluster in favor of a touch-sensitive display panel. The small windshield displays speed, navigation, and battery life right into the rider’s field of vision.

The handlebars also feature touch-enabled buttons to control the infotainment and other features of the Concept Link so the driver can keep a constant grip on the handlebars.
