A Los Angeles home that came up for sale recently has quite a silver-screen pedigree to boast of. The Holmby Hills residence, which is priced at $13.995 million, was, at one time or another, where stars David Niven, Audrey Hepburn, Eva Gabor and Mia Farrow hung their hats. It hit the market in 2015, with an asking price of $16.95 million, but failed to sell, and was pulled by its current owners until this recent listing.

The house—built by golden-age starchitect Paul Williams—is firmly in the Colonial Revival style, with a symmetrical façade centered by a double-height, column-supported portico entrance. Materials are brick and timber, with a brick motor court. Its construction dates to 1938, and the main residence spans 7,000 square feet of living space, with six bedrooms and four baths. A guest house on the property adds an additional 700 square feet to the total inside living area.

The house features many period details, including a marble fireplace with hearth step, and floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcases in the living room. A second fireplace, in limestone, graces the family room, which is opened nicely onto the gardens by a series of bay windows. Period sconces add a little weight to the interiors, but the chandelier in the foyer is rather too heavy-handed. Hardwood floors and, especially, a curving staircase add plenty of simple charm, though.

The property exterior comes to a little more than an acre, and includes some fairly spectacular landscaping, as well as a very nice pool, which is flanked by the guest house.

The home is known as the Eva Gabor Estate, but it has seen several other noteworthy film stars as residents.
