In time for the 2017 French Open, Richard Mille has come out with its new RM 27-03 Rafael Nadal Tourbillon Shock Resistance. It is the newest example that the tennis star will be sporting on his wrist throughout his time at Roland Garros, and, if it gets lost in the locker room, he should be able to find it quite easily.
The RM 27-03 Tourbillon Shock Resistance boasts what Mille has called the 10,000 G’s (so-called for units of g-force); the watch can withstand that amount of pressure. Considering that fighter pilots have to deal with about 0.1 percent of that amount…well, you get the idea.
To test the shock resistance of the new Rafael Nadal-sponsored watch, Richard Mille put the timepiece under what is called a pendulum impact device test, with a hammer-like pendulum beating down at basically any angle to determine the exact amount of force the watch can handle.
The Swiss maker wanted to craft a timepiece that could handle the shock sent up the arm as the ball actually makes contact with the racquet.
The case is crafted using TPT Quartz, meaning it is super light while still maintaining a high level of strength. The baseplate is Carbon TPT, and the bridges have been crafted out of titanium.
Rafael Nadal will be wearing his new namesake timepiece as he tries to win his 10th French Open title, and now it assuredly has the shock resistance to handle all the power he puts behind his swing.
It may be loud enough to distract his opponent, too.
