Musician Billy Corgan has sold his Beverly Hills home for $3.9 million. The Smashing Pumpkins lead singer had been asking $4.1 million for the property prior to the sale, and purchased it in 2009 for $3.85 million.
The house dates to 1947, and is designed with strong leanings toward the Monterey Colonial style, with the structure’s facade divided between a balconied second floor on one side and a traditional upper floor on the other.
The home’s interiors are tasteful and unprepossessing, with open-trussed ceilings, original hardwood or stone tile floors, fireplaces, built-ins, and a few light fixtures which appear to be period. The aesthetic is close to cottage-style, with a nice mix of darker wood and whitewash, and a plain approach to walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
Bathroom renovations have brought in modern interior fashion, but not to excess, and a vintage-influenced soaking tub fits the home well; it’s also nicely placed, in a windowed alcove, against an exterior wall. The kitchen comes off as just rustic enough to be used for some real cooking, with a butcher-block island cap, and a substantial, restaurant-quality stove; backsplash tiling in the kitchen is nicely subdued, probably travertine.
The property’s exterior works in a nice lap pool with brick surround, a natural pond, a bit of lawn with some mature tree growth, and a guest cottage.
Corgan co-founded The Smashing Pumpkins, and remains its only original member. He has also dabbled in professional wrestling. He is currently working on a solo album, which is nearing completion.
