You’d expect it to be daring, and it is.

Zaha Hadid’s Miami Beach condominium has hit the market, asking price an even $10 million. The South Beach property extends to just a hair under 2,300 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and four baths.

At first look, the interior spaces may suggest merely confidence: a complete lack of sentimentality, and a repudiation of nostalgia. But the composition is playful, too, and has fun messing around with familiar elements, even clichés, of abstract expressionism, futurism, and mid-20th century science-fiction imagery. It’s marvelously tongue-and-cheek.

The spaces are emphasized and expanded upon by Hadid’s own furniture designs, and her artistic choices. The furnishings are available, at an additional cost.

The apartment is framed, contextualized and balanced by the spectacular views of the beach; the idea may have been to suggest two competing, but entirely entwined, naturalistic vision: both fundamental, both abstractions, the one the mirror of the other.

The apartment’s open-concept common area quotes Kubrick and Suprematist futurism, and the furnishings magnify and expand. It’s difficult to imagine someone wanting the unit without the trousseau.

The apartment incorporates a pair of original floor plans in its design; it is currently set up as a large one bedroom with a discrete guest apartment, but another bedroom may be worked into the layout. Its outdoor balconies survey the beach below.

Hadid, who passed away last spring, is widely considered to be one of the most influential architects of her generation. Her design vision is echoed in a line of home furnishings which bear her signature sensibilities.
