Arthur Agatston, the cardiologist who created the South Beach Diet, has put his estate in Miami Beach up for sale. The celebrity doctor and fashion-diet guru is asking a hefty $23 million for the Sunset Islands property, which he purchased in 2005 for $4.2 million.
The generously proportioned home dates to 2009, and measures a little less than 10,250 square feet. It contains six bedrooms and ten baths; bed-to-bath ratio pegs it as a recent build.
The limestone façade of the house enhances the Florida Mediterranean style; together with the arcades and loggias, it gives the villa a strong Florentine influence.
Soaring arches, high ceilings, and large windows mark the interior. Modern light fixtures, and a blend of natural stone and wood, combine with the interior architecture to provide a sophisticated atmosphere.
Among the most appealing features of the home is the kitchen, which is wide open and very bright; white, off-white and stainless are the rule, and it feels a little generic as a result, but the sense of space is striking, and a set of pocket doors provides charming privacy for the dining room.
The house also contains a media room, a paneled office with inlaid hardwood floors, and a library and a fitness room on the upper floor.
The exterior of the property features a very nice pool, 116 feet of water frontage, and a guest cottage with one bedroom which measures an additional 2,000 square feet.
Celebrity doctor Agatston developed the South Beach Diet in the 1990’s, and it quickly became a bestselling self-help diet book. He currently practices in South Florida.
