Hollywood star Jeremy Piven has listed his home in Malibu for sale. The actor is asking $10.495 million for the property, and the listing details its concurrent and continuing availability as a lease at $40K/month for the coming high season. Piven purchased the beachfront house about twelve years ago, paying $3.5 million.

The streetside face of the home is vine-covered, and features a gated entryway and a trellis, and looks pleasantly beachfront ramshackle. The design looks mid-century, and it is: the home dates to 1949.

Within, though, the spaces are clean and well-executed, with a simple tonal scheme which doesn’t interfere too much with the atmosphere of the location.

There’s much to occupy the eyes, too, with ceiling accents and pillars, nicely textured oak floors, and sliding glass doors opening onto the beachfront deck and the master balcony. Natural pebble stone is used in the master bath as an accent material; it gives the room an intense textural feel. The kitchen is warm, open, and simple in composition, with a commercial-grade stove.

The layout of the house is open-concept, just what one wants in an oceanfront cottage. A good sense of continuing flow, and a lack of any real design vision keep the emphasis on the Pacific outside the windows. Lighting is generally understated, with the exception of a formless chandelier in the living area.

The house manages to work a small fitness room—or potential studio—and a home cinema, as well as four bedrooms and five baths, into its three stories.

Piven’s work in ‘Entourage’ led to three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, too. The actor is currently at work on ‘Wisdom of the Crowd,’ an upcoming primetime drama, for CBS.
