Entertainer Steve Lawrence has put his home in Malibu on the market. The singer and sometime actor is asking $9.998 million for the house, a longtime home he purchased with his wife and performing partner, Eydie Gormé, in 1980.

The house dates to the 1970’s, and bears the hallmarks of a contemporary style of the era: an ethereal interior grounded by the textures of brick and hardwood, and a playful sense of space provided by soaring ceilings and series windows. The double-height ceiling over the living and family area may be a little too distant, though, and with some of the more ponderous 1970’s elements, makes for the uneasy swing between leaden and liberated which marked interior design fashion of that decade.

The house measures 4,284 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and four baths. Renovations, presumably in the 1980’s, brought some clunky track lighting into the composition, but cleaned up what may have been an otherwise dark-finished interior. Built-ins and skylights add charm and lighten the load.

Then, there’s the home’s exterior. Beachside, there is an upper terrace, a brick patio, and a private walk to the white sand. Streetside, a private gate, another patio, and a little patch of lawn.

Steve and Eydie Lawrence released dozens of records over three decades, and performed together into the 2000’s. Steve Lawrence acted in several films, playing memorable characters like booking agent Maury in 1982’s ‘The Blues Brothers’.
